Easter: Faith- or Family-Based?

Is Easter strictly a Christian holiday? To be sure, the resurrection of Christ is why we celebrate Easter. My wife was Catholic, and I remember many sunrise services but I also remember dressing up and going to dinner with family and friends. For me, that includes an Islamic grandson-in-law, some Jewish friends, and probably a fair number of agnostics and non-churchgoers of many denominations.

I have several good friends sharing the teachings of Buddha with me and a favorite client who is Hindu, and this week he wished me a Happy Easter. No, I think this Sunday is a family holiday. In fact, I think many of our holidays are family celebrations because this is America and America celebrates freedom of religion and brotherhood and sisterhood.

We are all part of the American family of acceptance and joy.

I hope you have a wonderful Easter Sunday filled with family, friends, and a welcome day off from the news, stress, and shopping. Take this Sunday to celebrate life and peace. After all, Monday is waiting.
